Remothered is a series of psychological survival horror games from the mind of Chris Darril, an artist and director from Catania. The project has a rich history, dating back to 2007 when it started as fan reimagining of Hifumi Kono's 1995 Super Nintendo classic Clock Tower (see Remothered Alpha Versions for more information) but gradually became a separate IP with its own story and characters. After the years of troubled development and numerous rewrites, the project finally took shape in Remothered: Tormented Fathers, developed in collaboration with an Italian studio Stormind Games.
The game was to become the first entry in a survival horror trilogy and was released in 2018 for PC and consoles to critical and commercial success, attracting many more fans accross the world. Unfortunately, the sequel, released in 2020, failed to live up to its predecessor's success as result of a troubled production but remains loved by fans nevertheless. In 2022, Chris Darril announced his departure from the series, which ultimately put the future of the franchise and a pontential release of the third game on hold.
Remothered's key feature remains its realistic take on survival horror, where the enemies are real people as opposed to abstract entities and fantastical monsters, and intense psychological story examining the evils of human nature. With its tragic, believable characters, cinematic presentation inspired by the classics of Hollywood and giallo, and unforgettable soundtrack, Remothered maintains a strong cult following that welcomes new fans with each year. - That's a quote from a behind-the-scenes video[1] that was taken out of context. Chris Darril would clarify in the follow-up interviews[2] that Remothered was first envisioned as a story, but it was always intended to be a game series and could potentially be expanded into other media[3]. A graphic novel was released in 2021.
