Trivia

Remothered: Tormented Fathers is an award-winning psychological survival horror game created, written and directed by the Italian video game artist and director Chris Darril. It is the first chapter of the planned Remothered trilogy developed by Stormind Games and published by Darril Arts, later Remothered s.r.l.

Remothered was intended to become "the real answer to survival horror" as it was inspired by many classics of the genre.

The game was originally released on Steam Early Access on October 31, 2017 before becoming fully available on January 30, 2018. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since July 25, 2018 and on Nintendo Switch since September 6, 2019.

Summary[]

"Rosemary Reed, a fascinating 35 year old woman, reaches the house of a retired notary, Dr. Felton, who is affected by a mysterious disease. The woman is greeted by Ms. Gloria, the nurse who takes care of the old man. When Rosemary reveals herself and her true intentions, the terrifying dread begins.

Rosemary’s investigations will bring her to believe that the disappearance of the man’s daughter Celeste actually hides a terrible massacre. Influence[]

Chris Darril has stated much of his inspiration was taken from his experience as a child when he attended studies at a catholic school with nuns and how it influenced his cynical view of the catholic institution and religious faith.[6] How personal belief may turn into a fanaticism is one of the major themes in Remothered, as well as the conflict between religion and science.[7]

In terms of story and atmosphere, the inspiration for Remothered comes from the cinematography of many renowned film directors such as Roman Polanski, Jonathan Demme, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as the works of classic giallo directors like Dario Argento (Deep Red, Suspiria) and Pupi Avati (The House with Laughing Windows). He also cites Stephen King's literature as an inspiration for the endless psychological horror.[8]

Gameplay-wise Remothered was largely inspired by the classic survival horror titles like Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose and Silent Hill for their prime focus on the player's feeling of anxiety and tense psychological fear, as well as the hide-and-seek sequences of the original Clock Tower. However unlike its spiritual predecessor, Remothered incorporates 3rd-person camera and controls in the style of modern horror games like The Last of Us and stealth based real-time gameplay featured in Alien: Isolation.
